THE MOUSEKETEER (Nooresh Juglall) wins Africa's richest race on sand in 2011, the R600,000 Emerald Cup (Grade 2) over 1450m.

THE Emerald Cup, sponsored by the Emerald Casino Resort on the banks of the Vaal River, is Africa’s richest race on sand and carries total prize money of R600,000.

The race is run over 1400m on the Vaal sand track and traditionally takes place towards the end of September, a position in which it kicks off Phumelela’s major events each racing season.
